Art Theft by Kerry Jimson / Directed by Tim Gruar / 13-28 Sept 2024
A riotous comedy about Art imitating Life Imitating Art

For the world premier, New Players bring Kerry Jimson’s (Shortland Street, Shark In The Park) new comedy to the stage in Newlands this September. Dimeless and destitute, the gormless Halloran brothers, Dwane and Connor, hatch a plan to rob their local bank but end up embroiled in an elaborate scheme to flog off Connor’s atrocious artworks to an obnoxious art patron. At first it all goes swimmingly, until his wife beds the artist and the patron takes revenge, plotting to transform brothers into ’living statues’. Of course, it’ll all go plinths-up when the cocktail’s mixed! Add to that a pining, handbag wielding security guard; a larger-than-loud, chain-smoking matriarch and a mop-sloshing doobie brother and you’ve got a recipe a raucous comedy that really does prove that art can imitate life imitating art!
“With bold and confident performances, a simple and versatile set, effective lighting and sound, and a clear interpretation of the tone and feel of the script, this production delivered an entertaining and humorous performance that the whole team can be proud of!” Wellington Theatre Federation Adjudication
