'N Short 2004 featured four short plays by local playwrights, four local directors and an all-local cast to celebrate diversity, excitement, fun, pathos and the breadth of talent in local theatre. The plays in 2004 ranged from the comic home truths of parents struggling to cope with their son's sports team to a moving look at a young boy coming to terms with his home, his world and himself. THE SOUND OF MOOS (25 minutes) By Barbara Thompson, Director: Marjorie McKee She aspires to write musical theatre, but has her extensive musical memory proved too strong an influence? A musical tribute to the seductive charms of Taranaki, the NZ bush, and the trials of a playwright. Cast: Barbara Thompson ONCE TOO OFTEN (30 minutes) By Tanisha Fearon, Director: Paulette McIndoe A teenager faces beauty and pain in his unravelling home life as domestic violence bites hard. Cast: Linda Campos, Jeff Osborne, Ashton Henty, Bill Robinson, Matt McKenzie, Eddie Conroy HOOLIGANS (40 minutes) By Barry Lakeman, Director: Pat Moran Two couples try to keep their children's soccer coach under control. Cast: Jeff Osborne, Peter MacKenzie, Marjorie McKee, Irene Miller, Bill Robinson ROCK OF ALL AGES (25 minutes) By Annie Millard, Director: Chris Haslam The quicksilver give and take of two women as they tumble and laugh through the Ages of Womanhood, with shades of Shakespeare. Cast: Tanisha Fearon, Fingal Pollock This play won the Book of Honour at the NZ Theatre Federation Festival of Community Theatre 2002, being awarded best production and joint best actress.
