I’ve Got A Dinosaur In My Backyard

A Children’s Play by Kath Bee and Gaelynne Pound

Staged: October 2012 @ Newlands Community Centre. 7 Players Directed by Pat Moran. Music Director: Anne Megget.

This lively New Zealand play was staged by New Players in conjunction with Paparangi School. It tells the story of DJ, who finds Rex, a “bitser” dinosaur, in his backyard. DJ and his friends want to help Rex find his way back home – but in order to do so, each child needs to overcome a different fear. “I’ve got a dinosaur in my backyard” also featured a dance troupe playing clouds, water, trees and dragons, and an enthusiastic choir which performed the play’s musical numbers. Young actors from the northern suburbs performed the play’s four major roles, and New Players member Marisa King of Johnsonville played Rex the “bitser” dinosaur.
